The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has officially opened the 2026 inter-institutional transfer application window, allowing thousands of students to change universities, colleges, and TVET institutions ahead of the September intake.
The transfer period, which runs until August 14, follows last week's release of placement results and comes after the agency warned students against fraudulent transfer forms circulating online.
Eligible applicants have been directed to submit their requests exclusively through the official KUCCPS Student Portal and pay the prescribed processing fee.
Students seeking transfers should submit applications early through the official KUCCPS portal, avoid fraudulent links and complete admission requirements before the September reporting dates.
KUCCPS Extends Transfer Window to One Month
In a notice issued on Friday, July 17, KUCCPS announced that students wishing to move from their current institutions can now apply online during the 30-day application period.
Applicants are required to log into the KUCCPS Student Portal, select the inter-institutional transfer option, choose their preferred institution, state the reason for the transfer and pay the Ksh1,000 processing fee through an eCitizen payment reference.
The agency has extended the transfer period from the traditional two weeks to one month after Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba directed that students be given more time to review and adjust their placements.
The move is expected to benefit learners who wish to pursue different institutions before reporting for the September intake.
Relief for Students After Placement Complaints
The transfer window comes after KUCCPS placed 293,869 students into degree, diploma, certificate and artisan programmes, with some applicants expressing dissatisfaction over their allocated courses and institutions.
The official opening also follows KUCCPS's recent warning against fake transfer application forms that falsely claimed to process transfers before the portal was activated.
Meanwhile, several universities, including Kenyatta University, Moi University, Maseno University, Kisii University and Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST), have already released admission letters as preparations for the new academic year gather pace.
