The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has opened a special application window for students who qualified for university admission but missed placement during the regular 2026 exercise.
For the first time, eligible candidates who attained a minimum grade of C+ in the 2022 to 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations can submit late degree applications and receive instant placement.
The initiative is aimed at ensuring more qualified learners secure university admission ahead of the upcoming academic year without waiting for another placement cycle.
KUCCPS Offers Instant Placement Through Late Application Window
In a notice issued on Friday, July 17, KUCCPS invited eligible KCSE candidates who were not placed during the main application exercise to submit fresh applications through the KUCCPS Student Portal.
Applicants are required to log in using their KCSE index number and password, select the Late Degree Application option and choose their preferred programmes.
Unlike previous placement exercises, successful applicants will receive instant placement, enabling them to secure university admission immediately once their applications are processed.
The agency urged all eligible candidates to submit their applications before the deadline to avoid missing the opportunity.
Move Targets Qualified Students Left Out of Main Placement
The fresh application window comes just days after KUCCPS released the 2026 placement results, with 293,869 students admitted to universities and tertiary institutions.
According to Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba, 202,133 students secured degree placements, while thousands of others joined KMTC, diploma, teacher training, and hospitality programmes.
The new window is expected to benefit students who qualified for university admission but failed to apply or were not placed during the regular exercise, ensuring more learners access higher education before institutions begin admitting first-year students.
