The University of Nairobi (UoN) has officially released admission letters for students placed at the institution through the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS), ending weeks of uncertainty for thousands of 2025 KCSE candidates.
The university confirmed that first-year students will report for the 2026/2027 academic year on August 24, with all successful applicants required to download their admission letters and joining instructions through the Student Management Information System (SMIS) portal.
UoN Admission Letters Finally Released After Weeks of Waiting
The University of Nairobi announced that it had processed admission letters for all students admitted through KUCCPS.
The announcement comes after several public universities had already issued admission documents, leaving many UoN-bound students anxiously awaiting communication.
According to the university, admitted students have received SMS notifications containing their registration numbers.
Students will use the registration number to access the Student Management Information System (SMIS) portal and download their admission documents.
The first semester of the 2026/2027 academic year is scheduled to begin on August 24.
How Students Can Download Their Admission Letters
The university directed students to log into the SMIS portal using their registration number as the username and their KCSE index number as the password.

The institution also encouraged eligible students to apply for HELB loans and government scholarships to facilitate their studies.
Leadership Changes Preceded Release of Admission Letters
The release follows months of administrative uncertainty at Kenya's oldest university.
Earlier this month, Professor Ayub Njoroge Gitau officially assumed office as the University's ninth substantive Vice-Chancellor after prolonged leadership disputes.
Upon taking office, he pledged to prioritize student welfare, research, innovation, digital transformation, curriculum reforms aligned with the Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET) framework, infrastructure development and stronger alumni engagement.
The university had also opened an inter-university transfer window between July 9 and August 9, allowing students placed in other institutions through KUCCPS to seek transfers to UoN.
With admission letters now available, thousands of first-year students can complete registration requirements ahead of reporting on August 24 for the start of the new academic year.
