The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has launched one of its biggest recruitment exercises in recent years after announcing 54,016 vacancies for teachers across the country. 


The opportunities include 34,016 promotion slots for serving teachers and 20,000 Junior School teaching positions to support the rollout of the Competency-Based Education (CBE) curriculum. 


The announcement offers a major career boost for thousands of educators while addressing persistent staffing shortages in Kenya's education sector.

TSC Announces 54,016 Vacancies to Strengthen School Staffing and Support CBE Rollout

The Commission unveiled 34,016 promotion opportunities for qualified teachers and curriculum support officers serving in public schools.


The vacancies span several leadership and teaching grades, including Chief Principal, Senior Principal, Principal, Deputy Principal, Senior Headteacher, Deputy Headteacher, Senior Master, Senior Teacher and Senior Lecturer.


TSC directed interested candidates to submit applications through the Teachers Online portal by midnight on August 10, 2026.


The Commission said successful applicants would be deployed to schools with existing vacancies, adding that persons with disabilities are encouraged to apply.

Senior Teacher Positions Dominate Promotion Opportunities

Most of the advertised vacancies fall within senior teaching and school leadership categories.

The promotions form part of TSC's broader effort to improve career progression and strengthen leadership in public schools.

TSC Opens 20,000 Junior School Teaching Positions

In a separate recruitment exercise, TSC also announced 20,000 post-primary teaching vacancies for Junior Schools to support the continued implementation of the Competency-Based Education curriculum.


Applications for the Junior School positions will be accepted between August 18 and August 31, 2026 through the TSC website.


Applicants must be Kenyan citizens, possess at least a Diploma in Education, have a minimum KCSE grade of C+, attain C+ in two teaching subjects, and be registered with the TSC.


The Commission added that applicants must not have previously been dismissed from TSC employment on disciplinary grounds.

TSC Warns Applicants Against Recruitment Fraud

The Commission emphasized that the recruitment exercise is completely free of charge.


It warned applicants to remain vigilant against fraudsters demanding money while falsely claiming they can influence the recruitment process.


TSC reiterated that all selections will be conducted strictly on merit.
