Former University of Nairobi Chancellor Dr Vijoo Rattansi has died, bringing to an end a distinguished career dedicated to advancing higher education and supporting thousands of disadvantaged students across Kenya.
Her death was confirmed on Thursday, July 30, by former University of Nairobi Vice Chancellor Prof. Stephen Kiama, who described her as a passionate champion of education whose generosity transformed countless lives.
Dr. Rattansi's Legacy
Dr Rattansi made history as the first woman to serve as Chancellor of the University of Nairobi, holding the position from 2013 to 2023. Beyond academia, she led the Rattansi Educational Trust, which funded scholarships and school fees for needy learners.
She also served as a trustee of several charitable organizations and received national honors, including the Order of the Grand Warrior (OGW), in recognition of her lifelong contribution to education and philanthropy.
