The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) allows candidates who sat KCSE or KCPE examinations from 1989 onwards to generate and download digital certificates through the KNEC E-Certificate Platform. 


Applicants must complete identity verification and pay the required fee before downloading their certificates.

How to Download Your KCSE or KCPE E-Certificate

Step 1: Register an Account

Create an account on the KNEC E-Certificate Platform.

You will need to:

  • Register as a Student/Alumni applicant.
  • Enter your full name and email address.
  • Request a One-Time Password (OTP).
  • Enter the six-digit OTP sent to your email to complete registration.

Note: The OTP expires after 10 minutes.

Step 2: Log In

Access your account using your registered email address.

  • Request a new OTP.
  • Enter the OTP to access your dashboard.

The platform uses a One-Time Password (OTP) for every login instead of a permanent password.

Step 3: Complete Your Profile

Provide the required personal details, including:

  • Citizenship
  • Full name
  • Email address
  • Date of birth
  • Phone number
  • National ID number (for Kenyan citizens)
  • Profile photo (optional)

Your details will be verified automatically through the Integrated Population Registration System (IPRS).

Step 4: Generate Your E-Certificate

Select Generate E-Certificate and enter:

  • Examination Index Number
  • Examination Type (KCSE or KCPE)
  • Examination Year

Your personal information will automatically populate from your profile.

Step 5: Complete Verification

Before payment, the system verifies:

  • Your identity through IPRS.
  • Your examination records in the KNEC database.

Both checks must be successful before proceeding.

Step 6: Make Payment

After verification, you will be redirected to eCitizen to complete payment.

Charges

  • Certificate Generation Fee – KSh 1,200
  • VAT and eCitizen Charges
  • Total Payable – KSh 1,450

Available payment methods include:

  • M-Pesa (STK Push)
  • Visa
  • MasterCard
  • Other payment options available on eCitizen

Payment confirmation usually takes between 10 and 30 seconds.

Step 7: Download Your Certificate

After payment is confirmed:

  • Click Download Certificate.
  • The certificate will open as a PDF.
  • Save or print the document.

Each e-certificate contains a unique blockchain verification code for authenticity.

Important Information

  • E-certificates remain available for download for six months after generation.
  • After six months, the download link expires.
  • Applicants who need another downloadable copy after the six-month period must generate a new e-certificate and pay the applicable fee again.
