A Grade 9 student at CITAM Schools Ngong has died after reportedly falling from the rooftop of a school building, triggering a police investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
The incident, which occurred on Monday morning, has shocked the school community and renewed concerns over learner safety in schools.
CITAM confirmed the death in a statement to parents, saying the matter had been reported to police and that it was fully cooperating with investigators as detectives work to establish what led to the fatal fall.
Student Rushed to Hospital but Dies
According to the school, staff members and the Head of School responded immediately after the learner fell before arranging urgent medical treatment.
The student was rushed to Karen Hospital in consultation with her parents but was pronounced dead on arrival despite emergency efforts.
CITAM Schools confirmed that the incident was reported to Ngong Police Station soon after it happened.
The institution also revealed that it is working closely with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and other relevant authorities investigating the case.
"Following the incident, the school administration proceeded to Ngong Police Station to officially report the matter. We are fully cooperating with the relevant authorities, including the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI)," the school said.
School Appeals Against Speculation as Probe Continues
The school announced it will provide professional counselling and pastoral support to the bereaved family, students and staff affected by the tragedy.
While the exact circumstances surrounding the student's death remain unclear, reports circulating online claim the family has disputed unverified allegations surrounding the incident and is seeking answers.
CITAM urged parents, learners and the public to avoid spreading unverified information on social media or elsewhere while investigations continue.
"We respectfully request all members of our school community to refrain from speculation or the circulation of unverified information... to preserve the integrity of the ongoing investigations," the statement added.
The incident comes amid growing concern over learner safety following other recent school tragedies, including the death of a Grade 9 student at Lakewood Private School in Utawala, whose postmortem concluded he died from severe blunt force trauma consistent with a fall from height.
